December 3 - January 7 Subjects Offered: English, History, Math, Religion, Science
Dear Parent/Guardian, November 13, 2020
The virtual learning experience has presented inordinate difficulties for some students, but the six week winter break offers a unique opportunity. Please be diligent in checking the FACTS Parent Portal to ensure that your student’s grades are satisfactory. If your student is at risk for earning a D or an F in one or more classes for the fall semester, we recommend that you enroll him or her in our winter session by filling out the registration form linked to this notice. This 5 week session is an extension of the fall semester; it will not be noted as a separate term on your student’s transcript.
The purpose of this winter session is fourfold:
to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the spring semester;
to put your student on the path to graduation;
to make your student eligible for CSU college admission;
and to gain eligibility for spring activities.
Immediately after fall final exams, your student’s grades will be reported to the Assistant Head of School for Academics so that you may be notified in time to confirm his or her enrollment in our winter session. Upon enrollment confirmation, your student’s D or F will become an Incomplete (I). If all winter work is completed successfully, the Incomplete will become a C; in the case of incomplete winter work, the Incomplete will revert back to the original grade.
Students may enroll in a maximum of 2 courses, and a minimum of 7 students is required to run each course. Instructors will provide course outlines, pacing guides, grading policies and mentorship. Course Layout: Mondays - Fridays, courses will include virtual instruction and independent study as planned by the instructor. This may include Zoom sessions, self-paced modules, essays, independent reading, tests and/or quizzes, etc.
Cost and Grading: ● $200 per course ● Final grades will be posted by January 11, 2021. ● Students may drop a course by December 10, 2020 and will keep the original fall semester grade. ● No refunds will be allowed after the first day of instruction on December 3, 2020. ● Payment in full must be submitted for the updated grade to be reflected on the official transcript.
