One of our beloved staff members, Mick Kingkham (M.K.), and his family have been going through the long journey of living with a child fighting a chronic illness. Mick's seven-year-old daughter Kathryn was born with Thalassemia, a rare blood disorder and has been treated with blood transfusions her entire life.
In an effort to improve her condition, Kathryn has received a bone marrow transplant and has been undergoing chemotherapy since July. Kathryn has remained at the City of Hope in southern California and will need to stay there until mid November. As one could imagine, this situation has had a major impact on Mick and his entire family, and our school wants to help.
SJM will be hosting a gift card and cash drive in support of the Kingkham family and we're calling it One Family - One Fight. From October 23-25, SJM will be collecting gas and grocery gift cards and putting all cash donations towards Visa gift cards. This will help the family meet their needs as they focus on the recovery of Kathryn.
Students and staff will have collection drops Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during the school day and a final collection drop will take place at the home football game on October 25. Our goal is 100% participation from students and staff; no contribution is too small.
If you'd like to help support the Kingkham family, please bring your gift card or cash donation on October 23-25 to the front office, 7:30am-4:00pm, or to the football game on October 25. All support and prayers are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
