Several goals for SJM’s Strategic Plan for the Admissions Department have been met over the past few years. Communication and relationship building opportunities with our partner schools have continued to grow. Last year, we had a successful Middle School Visit Day with seven partner schools in attendance. This year we are happy to report that 10 partner schools and an additional Christian school will be sending their 8th graders to our newly introduced 8th Grade Preview Days. Each of those schools was visited by Admissions representatives last year where they heard a presentation about SJM. Appointments are being scheduled for this year as well.
Admissions staff and Ambassadors visited several partner schools in conjunction with fun events like Sports Days, Fun Runs, Halloween, etc. This year SJM will host both a fall and a winter Open House. Planning is also underway to have an SJM booth present at several Parish festivals this fall.
Shadow Visit days with partner school 8th graders have greatly increased over the past few years and have given prospective Panthers a better look at what to expect from their high school experience at SJM. Partner schools were also invited to join SJM at local events like Big Hat Days, and we enjoyed St. Helen’s School sending a representative to join us at Vintage Days.
The addition of an SJM canopy at community events has enhanced our presence in the public arena and among target markets. Last year, Admissions representatives attended Big Hat Days in Clovis, Fresno State’s Vintage Days, FresYes Movies in the Park, and a River Park Farmer’s Market. All were considered successful in creating awareness of SJM in the community, specifically to the K-12 Catholic education system. An increase in school event communications in Church bulletins has also been helpful in reaching more Catholic families with SJM information.
Articulation dinner meetings with the partner schools have been held in the spring over the past few years; they have proven to be a great way to communicate what Math and English traits are desired for students to achieve optimal success during their high school journey at SJM.
