On Sunday afternoon, May 16
th, in the Academic Center, The National History Honors Society held its annual Senior Ceremony. Fifteen seniors were honored for their active 2-3 year participation in NHHS, each earning a red graduation cord and history medal. The national organization, The National History Club, provides red graduation cords to all its chapters across the United States to seniors who fulfill requirements set by the local chapters. The seniors listened to the ceremony’s keynote speaker, NHHS’s first President and co-founder, Elliott Nerenberg, currently a student at UC Berkeley. The senior honorees are pictured above.

Additionally, the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association who operate Mt. Vernon, George Washington plantation, donated a book to each chapter for a History Student of the Year. This year’s book is entitled: Lives Bound Together: Slavery at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. This year’s History Student of the Year is NHHS President Catherine Gleason (pictured above right) who adeptly and enthusiastically guided the 60+ member club through a difficult but productive and fun year. Catherine organized 7 Kahoot! history tournaments, two virtual field trips to Renaissance Florence and Rome and historical sites in Virginia and Massachusetts, as well as a Cinema Night.
