San Joaquin Memorial High School Announces 2021 Hall of Fame Class, Jersey Retirements
San Joaquin Memorial High School is proud to announce the 2021 Hall of Fame class. This year’s class is: Anthony Fiorentino, Class of 1956; Dave Mineau, Class of 1965; Demetra Vincent Walker, Class of 1987; Shad Williams Class of 1989; Brook Lopez, Class of 2006, and Robin Lopez, Class of 2006. Dan Whitehurst, Class of 1965, will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni award. Bart Sciacqua, former Memorial Softball Coach, will be honored with the Memorial Service Award.
The SJM Hall of Fame honors outstanding individuals who have contributed greatly to the school through volunteer and service efforts as well as individuals who have achieved success athletically.
“This is an outstanding class to be inducted into the San Joaquin Memorial Hall of Fame,” said Michael Burke, President of San Joaquin Memorial High School. “They represent the best of SJM and shared their gifts across many segments of our school community, including athletics, service and leadership."
The same weekend, Memorial will also celebrate three of our most successful athletic alumni, Quincy Pondexter and Brook and Robin Lopez, all Class of 2006, with jersey retirements. Their jerseys from their time at Memorial playing basketball will be permanently retired. All three became professional basketball players after graduating from Memorial.
The Hall of Fame induction and jersey retirements will be celebrated with a special luncheon, school assembly, and football halftime presentation on Sept. 17.
“We are excited to celebrate and honor this induction class,” said Stephen Ferdinandi, Athletic Director. “After the past year and a half of delays and scheduling conflicts, this will be a very timely celebration. This induction class features Panthers across multiple generations, multiple sports, multiple connections to SJM; and all with an exceptionally lasting impact on San Joaquin Memorial.”
Peter Orlando, alumni of the class of 1980 and longtime Memorial supporter, said he was excited about this induction class.
“The Hall of Fame at San Joaquin Memorial has honored the most prestigious list of student-athletes in the State of California, many of whom have enjoyed professional careers in their respective sports,” he said. “However, what separates the SJM Hall of Fame from others is that it also inducts distinguished individuals who have devoted the better portion of their life to the advancement of the school along with decorated former students achieving at the highest levels of their industry. The inductees of the SJM Hall of Fame will forever make us Panther Proud!”
